Even with the Changes, Neillsville's Police Department is in Good Shape, Part 7

Thursday, January 29th, 2015 -- 11:44 AM

-The Neillsville Police Department has experienced a few changes the past several months, but the transition has been smooth and they continue to offer great services to the Neillsville Community.

Chief Scott Klueckmann talked about another initiative he'd like to bring back to the Neillsville Police Department.

He said, "One of the things I would really love to do, and we're kind of in the very beginning stages of it right now, is re-implementing our K-9 Program. I was originally the K-9 handler from 2002 to 2010. Then I took a break from it and there was money in place to get another dog, but, at that point I was rethinking my career track: did I want to be a dog handler for another 8 years or did I maybe eventually want to be Chief of Police? And so I chose the administrative track."

"We still have some of the funding in place. It's just waiting for another officer to come along and take interest in it And now I have an officer interested in it, but he needs a little more time under his belt before he's able to tackle a program like that, but that would be the next step. To get a drug detection dog back in our area. Back in our city."

"The county has two drug detection dogs and they do their best to try and serve a very large county, but if we had our own dog available, it'd be that much easier for us to be more active in drug enforcement."

The department has several new initiatives they hope to implement in the New Year.
