Woman Pleads Not Guilty to Using Drugs Just After Giving Birth

Tuesday, January 27th, 2015 -- 10:58 AM

-A Redgranite woman appeared in Wood County Court on Monday for using drugs just after giving birth to her son.

Back in November of last year, a nurse smelt a burnt odor coming from the room of 34-year-old Reva Martinez and called the authorities.

Besides the mother and her newborn son, the father and a friend were in the room as well. When authorities arrived, they all denied any drug use. A subsequent search turned up used syringes, a white powder and spoons with residue on them. The powder was identified as Oxycodone.

Martinez was arrested and charged with possession and neglecting a child. Probable cause was found during her preliminary hearing on Monday so her court proceedings will continue. She pleaded not guilty to the charges against her.
