Wisconsin Congressman Introduces Bill Revoking Approval of E15 Gasoline

Monday, January 19th, 2015 -- 11:55 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Wisconsin Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner has once again introduced a bill that would revoke current approval of E15 gasoline and require additional testing of midlevel ethanol blends like E10.

Ethanol Producer Magazine reports that the proposal was introduced and referred to the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. So far, no co-sponsors have signed on to the legislation.

The Brookfield Republican sponsored similar legislation in early 2013 which would have required the Environmental Protection Agency to stop the use of gasoline containing 15 percent ethanol until its effects on vehicles are further investigated.

In his newest proposal, the EPA would be required to enter into an agreement with the National Academy of Sciences to provide scientific research on the use of midlevel ethanol blends. After the study is completed in about 18 months, its findings would be presented to lawmakers for their reaction. Back in 2012, Sensenbrenner introduced legislation to limit the EPA's ability to mandate that refiners blend more cellulosic biofuel than is actually available.
