2014 Gun Deer Hunt Called "Rebuilding Year"

-Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources officials are telling the agency's board that the 2014 nine-day gun deer hunt was a rebuilding year.Preliminary numbers from last month's hunt show hunters killed 191,550 deer, down 15 percent from last year. DNR data shows about 25,000 fewer hunters bought licenses this year.
DNR Wildlife Management Bureau Director Tom Hauge presented the numbers to the DNR's board on Wednesday. He called the season a rebuilding year, noting hunters in 19 northern counties were allowed to take only bucks to help the region's herd replenish itself after two harsh winters.
He also noted hunters struggled with deep snow, fog and rain on opening weekend and unharvested crops that offered deer cover.
