Wisconsin Sees 4th Latest Corn Harvest in Past 30 Years

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -With 14 percent of the corn for grain still in the fields as of this past Sunday, Wisconsin has seen its fourth latest corn harvest in the past thirty years, ahead of 1985, 1992 and 2009.The Wisconsin Ag Statistics Service said in this week's crop report that grain moisture at harvest has been averaging 21 percent. And long lines at grain driers and elevators reportedly slowed progress further.
Reporters say that temperatures were well below average at the beginning of last week, with overnight lows in the single digits or lower statewide.
Meanwhile, farmers were also busy last week emptying manure pits and finishing fall tillage when possible. But portions of the state hardest hit by November blizzards meant muddy soils beneath deep snow has halted much activity.
