(WDLB) -Emergency responders in Marshfield practiced on Wednesday for the possibility of dealing with Ebola patients.According to WDLB, Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital hosted a training exercise, aimed at preparing hospital officials, and members of the Wood County Sheriff's and Marshfield Police and Fire Departments, to properly transport Ebola patients.
Ted said, "The whole focus is on a controlled environment and where emergency medical services has typically responded in automatic transport. This is a much more controlled environment. You identify the patient and you say 'wait a minute, let's make sure we're doing the right thing for the patient; lets make sure we're doing the right thing in transporting and for the safety of the general public as well. So we want to slow things down. We want to contain the situation and make sure things do not get more escalated. Granted, there is probably going to be more fear than actual risk."
Ministry transportation director Ted Ryan said crews went through the proper procedures for encapsulating an ambulance, donning the proper personal protective equipment, loading Ebola patients and delivering them to the emergency department.
