(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Though the weather was far from perfect, the fields dried up just enough to get more of the fall harvest activity completed last week.According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, this week's crop progress report from the Wisconsin Ag Statistics Service said hard frosts at the beginning of the week pushed corn toward maturity. Corn silage chopping and haying were starting to wrap up as producers switched to high moisture and dry grain corn harvest.
Since much of the soil is still a bit wet from the rains that fell a week earlier, reporters in the northeastern portion of the state noted heavy rutting and stuck machinery due to ongoing muddy conditions. The average temperatures last week were normal to about three degrees above normal.
As of Sunday, about 83 percent of the corn was mature. Corn for silage was 86 percent harvested and corn for grain was 20 percent harvested. About 59 percent of soybeans had been combined with the majority of the crop in good to excellent condition. Fall tillage was 32 percent complete.
