-The Owen-Withee School Board discussed some of their policies at their meeting on Monday. At the September Board meeting District Administrator Bob Houts had reported to the board on the use of seclusion and restraint as required by state law. Board members had questions about whether what they were doing followed their board policy. In a follow up, Mr. Houts reviewed Policy 447.11, Seclusion and Restraint, and indicated that, yes, the policy, which is based on state requirements was being followed.
In its continuing effort to update the district's policies, the board did the first reading of the 700 series of policies. The 700 series deals with Support Services in the district. The second reading of the policies will occur in November, at which time they will become official district policy.
Finally, the Wisconsin Association of School Boards has hired School Perceptions to conduct a survey of school board members statewide. Mr. Houts distributed to board members a document outlining how board members are to access the survey and directions for its completion. Data will be available to the district as soon as all members complete the survey.
