International Walk To School Day

Sunday, October 5th, 2014 -- 8:46 AM

International Walk to School Day is Wednesday, October 8th, and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation notes that there is still time to register your school for an event.

Safe Routes to School programs encourage children in grades K-8 to walk and bike to school by creating safer walking and biking routes. These programs improve walking and biking travel options, promote healthier lifestyles in children at an early age and decrease auto-related emissions near schools.

Currently, organized events are planned at more than 50 Wisconsin schools, and that number is increasing daily. However, all students who can safely and conveniently walk to school are welcome to be part of this international day of walking. Last year, more than 100 events were registered in Wisconsin.
