Neillsville's Homecoming September 29th-October 3rd, Final

Monday, September 29th, 2014 -- 1:00 PM

-This week is Homecoming week for the School District of Neillsville.

Middle/High School Principal Craig Anderson knows that there are some in the community that think the district and the school board are making too much of a big deal about the activities that occur during Homecoming; but, though he doesn?t like to live in a worst case scenario world, he hopes that they realize the horrible things that can happen when students are not being safe.

Mr. Anderson said, "I hope that I can honestly say that I see both sides. Again, I would be guilty as charged of being a teenager in high school and throwing a few rolls of toilet paper. But, I did it on those people that I knew. We didn't go up and down main street and draw a lot of attention to it."

"It was, I don't want to say innocent fun, but things are a little bit different. In this line of work that I'm in, I hope that our students and parents honestly believe that, as a district, we do want what's best for our kids all the time. 24/7/365."

"I hate to live in a worst case scenario world: February 2012, Campbell Sport High School. Three high schoolers in a vehicle filled with eight kids crashed. Now, I'm not sure what was going on, but it was early morning hours, a high rate of speed and toilet papering was involved. Now, maybe those are just simply coincidences that wrapped up into one tragic situation. I would hate to get that phone call in the middle of the night from the Sheriff's Department that says, hey, we have some students from Neillsville High School that were, fill in the blank. And we believe they were leaving someone's home and not making a very wise decision."

"So, again, I cannot stress enough, be safe, be responsible and be respective."

Mr. Anderson finished our interview by telling residents to come and enjoy the events the district puts on and always feel free to call with any questions or concerns you may have.

"We have a lot of things going on up here at the school from athletics, the FFA here in Neillsville is very popular," Mr. Anderson said. "We're starting to get into that Fall/Winter concert season so we'll have a lot of those things going on at all levels of our building. We're always anxious to have people attend those events. Contact the school with any questions. Visit our website and look at the events calendar if you're so inclined to see what's going on and when."

Once again Homecoming runs this week and the district has a lot of fun, school sponsored activities planned.
