Sunday, September 28th, 2014 -- 9:00 AM
Dave Hemke was passionate about access to health care for people in his community of Medford and through his work with the Family Health Center of Marshfield, Inc., his efforts helped thousands more throughout Wisconsin.Hemke, who served on FHC?s Board for 21 years including eight years as president, died July 7th at age 62. His contributions to FHC will be honored at a 4 p.m. ceremony Friday, October 3rd, at FHC?s Medford Dental Center. The event is open to the public.
FHC has partnered with Marshfield Clinic for more than 40 years to provide dental care in rural and underserved areas. Hemke was a strong influence in helping bring that care. He served for more than 35 years in the Taylor County Human Services Department and saw many clients struggle with access to dental care.
The opening of the Medford Dental Center Dec. 1, 2009, was a moment of pride for him. FHC dental centers are now located in nine communities, including Medford. A plaque to be presented during the ceremony will hang at Medford Dental Center to remind people of Hemke?s contributions and the important role FHC volunteers play.
