-A Withee man entered a plea of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect in Clark County Court Tuesday afternoon in regards to the attempted mutilation of his dog.Back in May, a dog, named Sammy, was found in the City of Owen with a laceration to her lower jaw. Initially, the Owen Police Department believed she had been hit by a car, but after receiving a call that 65-year-old Charles Weissmiller had attempted to mutilate himself, and pieces of flesh were discovered with fur attached while investigating that incident, they realized what happened.
When the officers later questioned Weissmiller in the hospital, he admitted that he tried to skin the dog alive because he didn?t want her anymore. After Weissmiller entered his plea, an exam was ordered to determine his mental health.
Weissmiller has been charged with felony mistreatment of animals. A $3,000 signature bond was filed against him and he is not allowed to have any contact with or possession of any animals.
