Minnesota Man Pleads Not Guilty to Battery Charges in Wood County Court

-A Minnesota man pleaded not guilty in Wood County Court to battery and robbery charges.According to court records, 30-year-old Alexander Smith and 28-year-old Mitchel Pederson assaulted a man that was walking home after drinking with his friend at a local tavern.
Smith allegedly asked the victim and his friend if he could get a ride to his hotel as they were leaving the tavern. The two men agreed and, after they dropped Smith off, the victim decided that his friend was too drunk to drive so he decided to walk home.
As he started walking, Smith and Pederson jumped him from behind and continually punched him in the face until he lost consciousness. When the victim came to, Smith and Pederson were running away and they had his wallet.
Both men have been charged with being a party to the crimes of substantial battery and robbery. They have both pleaded not guilty. If convicted of the maximum amount, they could spend 18.5 years in prison.
