Neillsville City Council Finance Committee Meeting Summary
Sunday, September 14th, 2014 -- 9:26 AM
A Finance Committee Meeting was held after the Neillsville Common Council Meeting on Tuesday of last week. The committee approved having the various city departments to try and keep their budgets similar to 2014. There was some discussion held about the major things affecting next year?s budget including changes to the Tiff Districts that includes the technical college and having another insurance plan to pay for.
The committee also approved the auditor, assessor and insurance consultant for the next budget. The city is in a three year contract with the auditor and assessor, but only a year-by-year contract with the insurance consultant. There was a $100 increase for the auditor, per the contract, a $50 increase for the assessor, per the contract, and the insurance consultant?s price was the same as last year.
There was a disagreement between the committee members in regards to wages and benefits. A couple of the members thought a wage freeze would be ideal for the city this next year, but another believes that the city has great workers so they should be rewarded for that. In the end, they decided to table the idea until they can get a better grasp on next year?s budget.
Finally, the committee set the meeting dates and times for the budget process which will begin October 6th and run through October 15th, with the 16th as a backup day if they need it. There will be a public hearing held during the regular common council meeting on November 10th in regard to the budget
