Storms Cause Power Outages
Friday, September 5th, 2014 -- 8:44 AM
A massive severe thunderstorm system rumbled from west to east across much of northern Wisconsin on Thursday morning and afternoon.70 mph winds, heavy downpours and frequent lightning caused power outages throughout Wisconsin Public Service territory.
At its peak, nearly 50,000 customers were without power. The high winds and lightning caused extensive damage to WPS facilities. Broken poles and downed lines are prevalent making restoration more time consuming.
It now appears that some customers should prepare for days without power before all of the outages can be repaired. Minocqua, Rhinelander, Crivitz, and Ellison Bay were the hardest hit areas.
