Marshfield Man In Wood County Court For Alleged Hit & Run

Thursday, September 4th, 2014 -- 8:48 AM

A Marshfield man appeared in Wood County Court on Tuesday for allegedly striking and injuring a motorcyclist and leaving the scene.

According to court records, around 3:30 on June 29th, residents on the 1500 block of South Chestnut Avenue in Marshfield heard a loud crash and saw a man lying in the road with his motorcycle on top of him.

A witness said they saw 58-year-old Oscar Balderas park his truck in a driveway, get out and then quickly jump back in and drive away without assisting the victim. The victim, 54-year-old James Luedtke of Marshfield, received two broken bones in his right leg because of the accident.

Balderas initially said that Luedtke lost control of his motorcycle as he was coming down the street while he was backing out of his driveway. However, he denied hitting the motorcycle, but authorities found skin, blood and hair on the truck?s hitch.

Balderas has a $5,000 signature bond set against him. Probable cause was found during a preliminary hearing on Tuesday so Balderas' court proceedings will continue. He will be back in court in October. He's been charged with one felony count of hit and run involving great bodily harm.
