Neillsville City Council Approves Sewer Rate Increase
Friday, August 29th, 2014 -- 10:47 AM
-The Neillsville City Council approved a Sewer Rate increase. The increase came about as the result of a study the council approved a few months ago. It was brought to the council?s attention that the facility and the sewer systems below the city are beginning to show their age. It was determined that a sewer rate increase would be necessary to make upgrades to the plant and maintain the plant and sewer system.
A recommendation by the PSC, the authors of the study, suggested that Neillsville increase the sewer rate by 15%. However, Public Works Director Dave Flynn, Neillsville Mayor Steve Mabie and the Neillsville Common Council were not comfortable with that increase.
In the end, the council approved a 10% increase for the sewer rate which will help pay for the upgrades they need and it will give them an opportunity to see how the plant is doing in a couple of years when the final payment is made on it. That extra money no longer used for the payment can go towards maintenance and upgrades for the plant.
The council also decided that, once some upgrades are made to the plant, they?ll look at lowering the price for people to bring in, to the plant, holding and septic tank loads.
