Personnel Items Handled at Neillsville City Council Meeting

Thursday, August 28th, 2014 -- 9:24 AM

-The Neillsville City Council handled several personnel items at their meeting on Tuesday afternoon.

First, the council approved the employee health insurance for another year. There was a 9.9% increase, but during a Personnel Committee Meeting on August 5th, the council decided to have the city absorb that increase and not pass it on to the employees. The city pays 88% of their employees? insurance with the remaining 12% paid by the employee. The council also renewed the insurance with Security Health Plan.

During the above mentioned August 5th committee meeting, a definition of ?emergency personnel? was approved. A new state law signed by Governor Scott Walker stated the cities and municipalities could not force their ?emergency personnel? to live within 15 miles of the city limits unless they had a definition for ?emergency personnel.?

The committee approved a definition of ?emergency personnel? to read that they must reside within 15 miles of the City of Neillsville including all police officers, fire fighters, the Director of Public Works and all water, sewer and street department heads under the Director of Public Works. That definition was then approved by the Common Council last night.
