Former Neillsville Resident Appears in Clark County Court for Sexual Assault

Friday, August 22nd, 2014 -- 10:42 AM

-A former Neillsville resident appeared in Clark County Court on Thursday for sexually assaulting his step-daughter.

According to the criminal complaint, the defendant, who was married to the girl?s mother from March 2004 until February 2008, began sexually assaulting the victim when they were living in Alma Center in Jackson County. The assaults began in July of 2005 and continued until October of 2007. The girl was just 5 years old at the time and the incidents would occur while the girl?s mother was at work.

The family then moved to Neillsville in February of 2007 and lived there until October of 2007 and the assaults continued. The man continually threatened the girl while the assaults occurred, saying he would kill her if she told anyone. The girl?s mother eventually kicked the defendant out of the home in October 2007 and divorced him in February 2008. She kicked him out of the house for unrelated reasons and didn?t know about the incidences until her daughter told her later on. The victim and her mother came forward in January of this year to report what had happened.

The defendant is currently being held in the Jackson County Jail on another matter. He has a 25,000 cash bond filed against him and one felony charge of repeated sexual assault of the same child filed against him. Probable cause was found during his preliminary hearing and he stood mute, so a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf. He also requested a substitution of judge. If convicted he could spend a total of 40 years in prison, have a $100,000 fine or both.
