Just in Time for the Clark County Fair, 4-H Celebrates 100 Years, Part 2
Wednesday, August 6th, 2014 -- 1:19 PM
-The Clark County Fair is happening this week and the Clark County 4-H is a big part of the fair. The 4-H program is also celebrating their 100th anniversary this year. I spoke with three Neillsville 4-H members, Luke Meyer, Jenna Byrne and Katie Meyer, and they talked about why they decided to join 4-H.
Katie said, "I wanted to take pigs to the fair. And we do a lot of cool projects and we go tubing."
Jenna said, "I wanted to be in 4-H because then I could take projects to the fair and because my sister was in it and I wanted to do what she did."
Luke said, "My cousin was in it and he was taking beef and pigs and I really wanted to do pigs so I took pigs and other projects."
As I mentioned, this year is the 100th anniversary of the 4-H program. I spoke with Melissa Kono, the CNRED Agent for Clark County and Interim 4-H Advisor, and she talked about some things they have done to celebrate the anniversary.
"We do have a display that will be near the Extension office and it has some pictures and some projects," said Melissa. "This kids that attended 4-H camp got to do some of the things they might have done 100 years ago in 4-H. They made butter and ice cream and there were some pictures and other examples of projects that kids would have done at the start of 4-H. We have some things to look at. I would like to hear from people about their memories of 4-H. From parents and grandparents who were in 4-H and some of the things they did and how things have changed, but what has stayed the same too."
The Clark County Fair starts today and runs through Sunday the 10th.
