(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Wisconsin's cheese production in June was up from the same time last year. The USDA reports that the state's dairy plants produced 235.4 million pounds of cheese during the month, which was a 3.5 percent increase from June 2013, but three percent less compared to this past May, which is partly due to the fact that June had less days on the calendar.
Nationally, 916 million pounds of cheese was produced--about 0.5 percent more than June 2013, but 5.2 percent below the previous month's production totals.
Dry Whey output in Wisconsin was recorded at 24.3 million pounds, which was up 4.9 percent from last year, but 7.1 percent lower from last month.
