Former Curtiss Clerk Pleads Not Guilty to Misconduct and Theft Charges

Friday, August 1st, 2014 -- 9:11 AM

-A former village employee has pleaded not guilty to misconduct in office and theft of a business setting.

At the end of 2013, it was discovered that 66-year-old Deborah Krauter, former Clerk of Curtiss, as well as 75-year-old Arlan Hamm, former President of Curtiss, allegedly gave themselves a raise that the board never approved. The two individuals would cover up the incident by creating fake documents, fail to bring documents to meetings or approve documents without following protocol.

Krauter states that she thought her pay increase had been approved and admitted to changing Hamm?s wages, but only because she was bullied by him and was worried about losing her job.

Krauter was in Clark County Court on Thursday for an arraignment. She entered not guilty pleas to the charges against her. No future court dates have been set at this time.
