Respondents to a Poll Think Wisconsin is Average on Inmate Rehabilitation

-Most respondents to a recent Marquette University Law School poll say they think Wisconsin's criminal justice system is doing an average job at best rehabilitating inmates.A little more than 41 percent of respondents said they believe the system is doing a fair job of rehabilitating inmates into contributing members of society. Thirty-one percent said they believe the system is doing a poor job.
The poll comes as prison reform advocates are pushing the state Department of Corrections to end solitary confinement, calling it a form of torture. DOC Secretary Ed Wall sent a memo in April saying inmates in solitary need a more rehabilitative experience and the agency plans to work with other states to find better ways to deal with those prisoners.
