Stanley Prison Inmate Involved with Attempted Escape had Charges Against Him Dropped
Tuesday, July 22nd, 2014 -- 12:14 PM
-A Stanley Prison inmate involved with an attempted escape had the charges against him dropped due to lack of direct evidence. In January of 2010, Eddie Evans, Jimmy Baldwin and Henry Spencer had release documents forged to get early releases. Evans and Baldwin did escape, but were caught a few days later. Spencer was caught before he was released.
Spencer was already found guilty and sentenced for his part in the crime. He had an extra year and half added onto the sentence he?s serving for armed robbery.
The escape and forgery charges filed against Baldwin were dismissed on the prosecutor?s motion. The motion and order for dismissal signed by Assistant District Attorney Roy La Barton Gay stated the defendant's case is circumstantial and lacks the direct scientific evidence that was available in the co-defendant's cases, so obtaining a conviction would be highly problematic.
The only remaining individual with a case still proceeding is Eddie Evans, but no future court dates are set for him at this time.
