Clark County Board of Supervisors Approves Sending Medicaid/Badgercare Referendum Request to Madison

-Besides the controversial communication systems project, there were a few other resolutions discussed at last week?s Board of Supervisors meeting. The board approved a resolution asking to have a referendum request sent to the state legislator, and then put on the November 4th ballot here in Clark County, that would expand the Medicaid/Badgercare Program in the state of Wisconsin.
Under Patient Protection and the Affordable Care Act, states were given the option to accept federal funding to expand their Medicaid and Medicare programs. Governor Scott Walker chose not to accept those funds.
According to the resolution, by rejecting those funds, 84,000 people had to run on the Wisconsin State Healthcare Exchange, but most of them don?t qualify. The resolution continues, saying that Wisconsin will need to spend $973 million to fund the programs through 2022, but if they accepted the funds, they would only need to spend $248 million for the same period.
In the end, the board did approve the resolution with 15 voting yes and 12 voting no, but several comments were made that the resolution would more than likely be tossed into the garbage once it reaches the governor?s desk.
