Friday, July 18th, 2014 -- 11:32 AM

-A Sheldon man appeared in Clark County Court on Thursday for drug charges.

Back in June, 29-year-old Jeffrey Mertens was arrested on Highway 29 near Abbotsford after he passed a K9 unit at a high rate of speed. After he was pulled over, the dog indicated there were drugs in the vehicle and the officers found several bags of meth, a meth pipe, a torch and lighter, a digital scale, a pistol holster, a bayonet in a sheath and a bottle of urine. Mertens did tell authorities that he was going to Abbotsford to get more methamphetamine.

During the initial appearance, Mertens requested a preliminary hearing which was set for August.

Mertens is being held in the Clark County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond and he?s been charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Manufacture/Delivery of Methamphetamine, Operating with a Detectable Amount of Restricted Controlled Substance and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
