Clark County Health Department Begins CHIPP Initiative

Friday, July 18th, 2014 -- 9:27 AM

-The Clark County Health Department has begun the first steps of the Community Health Improvement Planning Process, or CHIPP.

Wisconsin statute requires health departments to collect data on the health of communities and make the information available to the public, as well as use that information to create health policies and procedures for the community.

The Clark County Health Department decided to use the CHIPP initiative to address health care needs, raise community awareness, control service overlap and more. The plan is created by identifying priority health needs and resources available to address those needs.

Of the 12 health priorities identified, including chronic disease, healthy food and nutrition, physical activity, tobacco use, healthy growth and development, communicable disease, environmental and occupational hazards, injury and violence prevention, mental/behavioral health, alcohol and drug use, oral health and reproductive and sexual health, the group present picked three as a priority for the county which were nutrition and healthy foods, mental/behavioral health and alcohol and drug abuse.

The health department will now continue the process, hoping to have a final version set with in 5 to 6 months and use it to create a healthier Clark County.
