Jackson County Sheriff's Department Reopening Two Cold Cases With Hopes of Identifying the Victims

Tuesday, July 15th, 2014 -- 9:54 AM

-The Jackson County Sheriff?s Office, along with the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation, has reopened two cold cases with the hope of identifying the victims.

One goes back to August 15th, 1978 when a logging crew discovered human remains in plastic garbage bags while working in the Township of Knapp. According to an investigation of the skull, they believe it belonged to a male over 45 years of age, but his identity is still not known.

The second case goes back to October 10th of 1990 when the remains of a woman were discovered in two shallow graves in the Township of Brockway. According to an investigation of the remains, they believe the woman was around 24-year-old when she died.

In both cases, due to the advances technology over the years, the Jackson County Sheriff?s Department and Wisconsin Department of Justice believe they can identify who these victims are and possibly discover what happened to them.

If anyone has any information on the identity of either victim or information regarding the homicide of the victims, contact the Jackson County Sheriff?s Office.
