Wednesday, July 9th, 2014 -- 6:20 AM
-The Neillsville City Council approved a few important items during the public works portion of their meeting on Tuesday. The council approved the Sewer Rate Study to begin. It was decided at the last meeting that a study needed to be done to look at possible projects to keep the sewer plant running properly and dealing with the state?s new phosphorus laws.
A representative from AECOM gave a brief synopsis of the study saying that they last did one back in 2010. They will look at revenue and expenses and capital projects for plant improvements. They?ll also look and make sure that the city?s waste hauler rates are competitive with surrounding communities and come up with an attack plan for dealing with the new phosphorus regulations.
The study will help determine if the city can remain where they are with their sewer rates or if an increase is needed. The cost of the study is $4,000 and they will begin that today. The council approved this during the public works portion of the meeting and again during the regular common council meeting.
