Tuesday, July 8th, 2014 -- 11:23 AM
-Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke says if elected she would work to repeal a law signed by Gov. Scott Walker and opposed by veterans making it more difficult for victims of asbestos exposure to receive damages in court.Burke announced her position on that and other veterans issues in a statement released on Thursday, just before the July 4th holiday.
Walker signed the asbestos bill in March despite opposition from three veterans groups representing more than 100,000 members.
Burke also promises to reinstate a 2009 law Walker repealed that had expanded the rights of veterans and other protected groups to file state lawsuits seeking damages over employment discrimination.
Walker has defended his record on veterans issues, which includes investing millions to help shore up a trust fund benefiting veterans.
