Farmers Take Rain in Stride

Sunday, July 6th, 2014 -- 9:27 AM

-Rain has taken a significant toll on Wisconsin farm work, but growers say they're doing the best they can to take advantage of sunny days.

The 2014 growing season arrived with significant challenges. A harsh winter melted into a cold spring with heavy rains.

The conditions restricted how much time farmers could spend in the fields.

As Sid Kroeger set up a table at Menasha's Farm Fresh Market last week, he said it's been a slow growing season. He says he could use a 10-day stretch without water, but he just makes the best of the field time he does get.

Wayne Howard owns Howard's Produce in Hortonville. He says sandy soil has helped him avoid overly soggy conditions.
