Owen City Council Approves Changes to Injured Animal Policy
Wednesday, July 2nd, 2014 -- 10:56 AM
-The Owen City Council approved changes to their injured animal policy. After much discussion, the council approved allowing the City to pay up to $200 to care for an injured animal when the owner is unknown. If the bill is over $200, the Mayor should be contacted for the final say in the matter.
Owen Police Chief Andrew Shade stated as there was no room at the City Garage, he had to rent a storage unit for the back-up squad. The council approved keeping the squad at the rental unit until such time that space could be made at the garage.
Chief Schade also said he was pleased with the job Officer Boie has been doing. The Personnel Committee recommended Officer Boie receive a $2 an hour raise and the council approved the increase.
Finally, the council discussed the city?s Burn-Out Contest. Drew Potocnik has been looking into installing an 8 x 8 slab of concrete with an anchor for the contest. With volunteers and donations, it shouldn?t cost that much, but the question was, where to put it? Also, safety concerns were noted as were complaints of smoke and noise from last year. The motion was tabled for two weeks, when more information could be presented.
