Clark County School District Will Receive Over $280,000 in Settlement With Construction Company

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2014 -- 10:54 AM

-A local school district will receive over $280,000 from a settlement between several school districts and one of Wisconsin?s largest construction companies.

The Abbotsford School District will receive $280,560 from a $4 million settlement between the district and the Neenah based Miron Construction Company. The district was a part of the settlement with four other school districts including D.C. Everest, Marathon, DePere and Waunakee.

Miron agreed to pay the $4 million settlement after a lengthy investigation found that the company exceeded the limits on cost, plus contracts with the school districts from 2003 to 2008 by over billing for overhead costs.

The construction project for Abbotsford was a result of a $12 million referendum being passed in November of 2007. The district built a new Elementary School and renovated other buildings as well.

The district plans to use the money it will receive in the settlement to pay down the final years of the bond issue they?re repaying until 2028 for the elementary school and other construction projects. This will help lower their interest rates and reduce principle payments.

U.S. Attorney James Santelle said the Miron is going to be monitored by an accountant after this incident.
