Several Area School Districts Receiving Funds for Transportation

Thursday, June 26th, 2014 -- 10:09 AM

-The Department of Public Instruction is distributing $5 million in aid for districts with above-average student transportation costs under the first year of the high cost transportation categorical aid.

Districts are eligible for high cost transportation aid if their transportation costs exceed 150 percent of the statewide average cost per member.

The new categorical aid was created by a collaborative effort between State Superintendent Tony Evers and Senator Luther Olsen, as well as the State Superintendent?s Rural Advisory Council, as a way to reduce disproportionately high transportation expenses. Evers recommended the aid as part of his 2013-15 budget request and it was approved by the full Legislature and governor as part of the 2013-15 biennial budget.

Some local districts receiving these funds include Granton with $8,638.51, Greenwood with $34,996.96, Owen-Withee with $32,386.69, Colby with $38,310.28, Thorp with $22,256.02, Stanley-Boyd with $7,092.38, Stratford with $44,893.75 and Pittsville with $26,685.57.
