Owen City Council Discusses Reactivating their Fire Sirens

Thursday, June 19th, 2014 -- 10:17 AM

-The Owen City Council heard a report about reactivating the Owen-Withee-Curtiss Fire District siren.

Mark Renderman reported the staff inadvertently set off their siren recently, but the real issue is the problem the county is having with their paging system. At one time Mark was only getting a 30% response to pages. Mark said something needs to be done now to insure adequate response to their alarms. He said the temporary solution may be reactivating their sirens for fire and ambulance calls.

Mr. Renderman also said that due to numerous fire code violations, he had no choice but to evacuate all residents of the Woodland Hotel. He mentioned talking to an attorney about police locking down the building to prevent potential damage.

Also, Bob Christensen reported four residences will be receiving 30 day notification letters, which means they have 30 days to get their properties in order or fines will be levied.
