Owen-Withee School Board Hears Update on Summer School Program

-The Owen-Withee School Board heard an update on the district?s Summer School Program.Elementary Principal, Lance Batchelor, reported that the program will start on Monday, June 16th. 180 students have enrolled in the program that will be 5 ? one week sessions. Students will take 2 courses each day taught by 22 different staff members.
The board also heard that with no money available from the 2013-14 budget, not many summer maintenance projects are planned for the month of June. Don Boening has gotten quotes on sidewalk repair, blacktop replacement and roof replacement. Some projects could begin after the change in fiscal year which is July 1st.
Also, a lot of discussion revolved around wanting to provide student accident insurance for the district?s families, but trying to keep it affordable. Two different vendors had given proposals to provide the district's students accident insurance. The Board voted to get this insurance from Student Assurance Services. The plan will be their standard plan with no deductible at a cost to the district of $6,554.
