Better Business Bureau of Wisconsin Warns Residents About Potential Summer Scams, Final
Saturday, June 7th, 2014 -- 6:38 AM
-The Better Business Bureau of Wisconsin is warning residents about potential summer scams hitting the state. This warning came about after the Better Business Bureau of Wisconsin was contacted by a Stanley resident who was scammed out of a $30,000 car.
I spoke with Randall Hoth, President/CEO of the BBB, and he talked about what you should do if you do fall prey to a scam.
Mr. Hoth said, "The best thing to do, we would hope if there is any opportunity to have signed a contract, don't pay by check or cash and clearly don't trade out a vehicle for work done. And go right to the Better Business Bureau. We have a free complaint form and you can do it online."
Mr. Hoth said that if you need work done, you should be approaching the company, not the other way around.
"You want to be the one approaching the company for the work," said Mr. Hoth. "If someone talks to you about doing work for you unsolicited, that's the first red flag. That's when you need to stop and, it sounds simple, but get the name of the company, the name of the individual, a phone number or the domain name or URL number of the company and this will help the Better Business Bureau research this for you."
Mr. Hoth said it?s important that people do their research, get information and be a smart shopper before having any work done this summer.
