Neillsville Girls Softball Season Comes To An End

Friday, June 6th, 2014 -- 6:02 AM

The Neillsville Girls softball season came to end on Thursday at the Durand Sectional Final as they lost to No. 2 ranked Grantsburg 1-0.

Sammi Larrabee started the game on a positive note for the Warriors with a base hit to right and then Katelyn Crothers reached on a error, but those would be the only runners for the rest of the game. Grantsburg right hander, Mary Hanson went to retire the next 21 in a row, 15 of those on strikeouts.

Allie Pfieffer gave up 5 hits on the mound for Neillsville, walking 3 and striking out one. Grantsburg scored the only run in the 5th inning. Pfieffer walked Katie Miller to lead off the inning and then she was thrown out by Neillsville catcher Sydney Miller when she tried to steal second. The next batter, Mary Hanson then doubled to left center and then scored on a line drive down the right field line by Wendy Roberts.

Neillsville finishes their season 19-6 while Grantsburg improves to 21-3 and will play in the D3 State Semi-Final on Friday at Goodman Diamond in Madison against No. 1 ranked Arcadia.
