Wood County Sheriff's Department Offers Warning About Attempted Scam

-The Wood County Sheriff?s Department would like to warn residents about an attempted scam that occurred on Tuesday.According to the department, a person was contacted by somebody claiming to be from Riverview Hospital. This person stated that the individual had an outstanding balance with the hospital and asked for the resident?s credit/debit card numbers to submit a payment. The individual promptly hung up.
After calling the Riverview Hospital, the citizen was told that the hospital would never call and ask for their credit card number.
There are many variations of this scam in which the caller tries to get credit card numbers from someone by telling them they?re late on a payment of some kind. If this happens to you, the Wood County Sheriff?s Department advises you to hang up immediately and contact your local police department to report it.
