-The Neillsville School Board heard a presentation about a new reading series during their meeting on Monday.Kory Poeschel, part of the district?s Literacy Leadership Team, gave a background on the process. The district tried two weeks with two different programs which were Reading Wonders and Good Habits, Great Readers. This came about after a CESA meeting when it was determined that the district?s old program was lacking many things. The Literacy Team felt this was reflected in the district?s lower reading scores.
In the end, the team decided that Reading Wonders would be the appropriate program for their students as it is currently in line with the Common Core Standards, it can be used with the district?s 1-1 technology initiative and it?s a great foundation. The cost of the program will be around $97,000 and the board did approve the program.
Kory also provided the board with a copy of a curriculum mapping guide, essential learning targets and essential questions that the Neillsville teachers use during the school year.
