Clark County Tourism Committee Meeting, Part 1
Thursday, May 22nd, 2014 -- 8:20 AM
-The Clark County Tourism Committee held a meeting at Holland?s Family Cheese in Thorp on Wednesday afternoon. The recent Alice in Dairyland Finals was mentioned at the beginning of the meeting. The selection finale in Curtiss had over 300 people at the event.
Rick Dailey, Clark County?s Forestry and Parks Administrator, talked about several things happening in his department. He said the ATV trails are open and will stay open through the weekend, but, due to Monday?s rain, they are not in the best condition.
He also said that they purchased a 1/3 page ad in Travel Host Magazine talking about the outdoor summer activities the county has to offer. He mentioned that the fairgrounds received a $2,000 donation to do some work on the dairy barn and they received some money from the Listeman Foundation to do work on the grounds as well.
One of the big items he mentioned was the Sherwood Dam. As of now, the lake has no water in it because of a failed spillway levy that drained the lake over the Winter. Unfortunately, there is no money in the budget to fix it and there won?t be until next year. The project is expected to cost $280,000 to fix. However, Rick did say that an engineer is going to reassess the dam, as he can now acquire more accurate figures, and see what the new cost would be.
