-The Owen-Withee School Board discussed insurance at their meeting on Monday of last week. The Board has provided an insurance service to the district?s families to help cover the cost of injuries suffered during school events. Their insurance is secondary insurance, which covers anything that a family?s insurance does not cover.
The Board discussed that with federal law now requiring everybody to have health insurance; is this needed anymore? Cost to the district for the 2014-15 school year will be $33,148. The issue was tabled until June for further information to be gathered.
Also, District Administrator Bob Houts notified the Board that the District has applied for and received a DPI grant to purchase touch pad technology. The grant, for $15,525, is provided out of IDEA funds and will be used to provide these computer devices to special education students.
