-A Marshfield man was arrested for his alleged involvement in an international drug network.According to an indictment unsealed Thursday in a Denver federal court, 50-year-old Kenneth Chastain, a representative of Avalon on 4th, purchased and marketed controlled substances under trade names and sold them through his retail store. This occurred between January of 2012 and May of this year.
The synthetic marijuana, known as spice, was sold by John Bowen and Daniel Bernier of Colorado, they acquired it from China, and then sold to stores in Colorado, Wisconsin, Illinois and Nebraska.
Nine people were arrested on Wednesday, all with ties to this case, and it was part of a nationwide raid as the US continues to crack down on the illegal sale and purchase of synthetic drugs.
Chastain will be transferred to Colorado and appear in court in May. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
