Wisconsin Republicans Head Into Campaign Season With Plenty of Momentum

-Wisconsin Republicans are heading into the legislative campaign season with plenty of momentum. The GOP currently controls the Assembly 60-39 and the Senate 18-15. Political observers say Republicans almost certainly will retain control of the Assembly when the dust settles in November. Democrats may have a better chance in the Senate after three Republicans announced they won't seek re-election. The head of the Democrats' Senate campaign committee has promised an all-out offensive to seize those seats.
But University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee political scientist Mordecai Lee, a former Democratic state representative, says Republicans did such a good job in redrawing legislative district lines to consolidate GOP support three years that Democrats face an uphill battle.
The primary is set for August 12. The general election is Nov. 4.
