-A Marshfield man accused of child abuse tried to have his bond changed in Wood County Court Friday morning.According to court records, an investigation began into an incident, involving 21-year-old Sebastian Suchomel and his child, on October 24th after the 11-week-old was taken to the doctor with multiple fractures.
The child had two fractures to its left arm, three fractured ribs, and a possible fracture to its leg. A doctor said these types of injuries to the limbs is consistent with constant yanking or pulling being done to them. The injuries to the ribs are consistent with the chest being squeezed or pushed to tightly.
Suchomel did admit that the baby was crying for a long period of time, he lost control, grabbed the infant?s arm and leg and flipped him over. When he did, he said he heard a pop and the baby?s arm went limp.
Suchomel asked to have his $10,000 cash bond turned into a signature bond stating he couldn?t raise the funds, he isn?t allowed to see his child anyway due terms of his bond and he has significant ties to the Marshfield community, meaning he wouldn?t run.
The state, however, felt that with the serious charges filed against him, his history and the fact that he did have a warrant out for his arrest in a previous case, the bond should remain the same.
The judge agreed, and denied the motion. Suchomel could be sentenced to 40 years in prison if convicted of the charges.
