-A Marshfield man entered a not guilty plea in Wood County Court on Tuesday for stealing thousands of dollars from his father.74-year-old Delbert Weiler allegedly stole more than $50,000 from his father after he got caught up in a scam. Weiler said that $30,000-$40,000 of that money went towards entries into the Australian and Nigerian lotteries.
The incident was brought to the attention of the authorities after a woman reported that she believed someone was taking advantage of her 96-year-old father. The woman said that Weiler was given oversight of her father?s finances when he was unable to handle the money himself.
Weiler initially claimed that he was given $52,000 by his father and he was taking an additional $6,000 from his father?s account each year for reimbursement for work he had done for his father.
Weiler did plead not guilty to the charge of theft in a business setting. If convicted he could spend 10 years in prison and he?ll appear in court again in May.
