(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Wisconsin's total cheese output in February was lower compared to the same time a year earlier. The USDA reports that the state's dairy plants produced 214.9 million pounds of cheese during the month--which was 2.3 percent less than February 2013, and 11.4 percent less compared to this past January. Last month's report showed the first year-to-year increase in total cheese output in the previous four months, but the trend headed back down again in the February summary.
Nationally, 851 million pounds of cheese was produced--about 0.6 percent less than February 2013, and 11 percent below the previous month's production totals (mostly because February had less days on the calendar).
Dry Whey output in Wisconsin was recorded at 20.6 million pounds, which was down 24.4 percent from last year, and 7.5 percent lower than last month.
