Owen City Council Approves Resolutions for the Owen-Withee-Curtiss Fire District

-The Owen City Council approved resolutions for the Owen-Withee-Curtiss Fire District.The council approved the Corporate Resolutions to UBS Financial Services Inc. as Owen is a sponsor for the Owen-Withee-Curtiss Fire District?s Retirement Plan. The resolution named Terri Ernst, Owen?s City Clerk, and Steve Heggemeier, Owen?s Mayor, as the authorized representatives. They also approved borrowing by the OWC Fire District for purchasing self-contained breathing apparatus? and the City agreed that in the event the District does not have sufficient funds to pay the debt service, the City would pay its proportionate share.
The city also tabled the issue of DB Wireless leasing space on the City?s water tower until more information is received and approved to set the price of $8,000/acre in the East Side Commercial and Agribusiness Park.
Finally, the council heard the CDA Report from CDA Director Tim Swiggum. Mr. Swiggum reported that the Railroad closing date has not been determined yet, there is a possible lead on a business in the East Side Commercial Park and he said the new Owen newspaper, The Sentinel and Rural News, is up and running and their first issue came out last week. He also said there will be a joint meeting of the DRC, Parks & Rec. and Owen Jr. Fair Committee on May 26th to discuss Owen?s parks and their future. At this point, Owen resident Patrick Pfeffer questioned why the city can?t do something for James Harris to keep his Laundromat open?
