Friday, March 21st, 2014 -- 1:05 PM
-This Sunday the Spencer Special Olympics is holding a fundraiser, to benefit their organization, with a basketball game between the Spencer Fire Department Firefighters and the Spencer Special Olympics Rockets.I spoke with Mark Larson the very passionate coach for the Spencer Special Olympics Rockets and he talked about Sunday?s big game.
Mark said, "I think last year, we had 22 firefighters that were on the team and this year we have 9! The doors open at 11:30am. The game itself actually starts at 12:30pm. We have concessions there so it anyone wants to come for lunch we have brats and hotdogs and snacks and treats. All that money benefits Spencer Special Olympics."
Mark said the courage and heart the kids play with is incredible to see.
Mark said, "One of the things I've always said is that if you really want to see some good basketball or other sport whatever it happens to be. Go to a special Olympics event. It is incredible the courage and the heart those kids play with."
The game is being held at the Spencer School?s main gym on Sunday, March 23rd. Doors open at 11:30 and the game starts at 12:30.
