Memorial Medical Center Hosting CPAP Clinic, Part 2

Tuesday, March 4th, 2014 -- 1:26 PM

-Memorial Medical Center will be hosting a CPAP Clinic on March 17th from Noon to 5pm.

Jim Dunn, of Whitney Sleep Diagnostics and Consultants, talked about the negative effects of having equipment that isn?t functioning properly.

"The biggest thing is if the equipment isn't functioning properly, people generally tend to stop using it," Jim said. "If they do continue to use it, they wouldn't get the full impact of the therapy. What CPAP does is it's Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. So what's happening, is that the airway in the throat is kept open by a stream of air going into the patients noes or mouth. The purpose of a sleep study is to determine if you do stop breathing when you sleep and what pressure does CPAP need to be at to keep the airways open, but not so much that the patient is uncomfortable."

You don't need an appointment for the CPAP clinic, but for those who do want a scheduled time, you can call Whitney Sleep at 877-844-6150 to reserve a time. If you want to purchase new supplies, you can speed up that process by having Whitney Sleep verify your insurance benefits in advance by calling that same number.
